Utter brilliance。 two books for the price of one， Following on from Magpie Murders with Susan Ryeland at the helm， yet another mystery to solve and how cleverly that is plotted。 Two whodunnits for the price of one， the fictional Atticus Pund has the key to a present day mystery， I loved it。

3。5 - but rounding up because i think i was too harsh on the first one - enjoyable British murder mystery even if （again） I felt the murderer was obvious。 There’s definitely something to be said for the HOW-dunnit in these murder mysteries。

Another juicy “who done it” book within a book by Horowitz。 I love this author and his style！！ I can’t go into a whole lot of detail without spoiling the story， so you’ll have to read it yourself！！

If you like Golden Age classic crime novels you will love this book。 Having read the previous book， Magpie Murders， I looked forward to reading Moonflower Murders。 Again the plot is cleverly written as a book within a book， with two crime stories running concurrently。If you like a good whodunnit with red herrings and twists and turns， you will not be disappointed with this smart well plottted， novel。I would recommend this cosy read。

Horowitz and GaysEvery gay character in The Moonflower Murders is vain， anarchistic， materialistic， vapid， campy and attractive if they are young--perverted if they are old， kinky， petty， and less dimensional than gay characters on 90's sitcoms。 Rent boys， pedophile red herrings， and limp-wristed cackling--it just became infuriating to read。 Gay characters don't have to be nice but make them realistic， please。I loved The Magpie Murders as well as The Word is Murder。 I expected to have a ton of f Horowitz and GaysEvery gay character in The Moonflower Murders is vain， anarchistic， materialistic， vapid， campy and attractive if they are young--perverted if they are old， kinky， petty， and less dimensional than gay characters on 90's sitcoms。 Rent boys， pedophile red herrings， and limp-wristed cackling--it just became infuriating to read。 Gay characters don't have to be nice but make them realistic， please。I loved The Magpie Murders as well as The Word is Murder。 I expected to have a ton of fun with Horowitz's latest mystery。 Firstly--the plot was okay， the murder interesting enough， but the book-within-a-book element was less compelling than in The Magpie Murders。 All that is to say， if there weren't other elements of the book I struggled with， I would call it a fine mystery。 Not great， but not bad。Unfortunately， there are a number of gay characters in the book that are one-dimensional。 Many of them have the stereotypical traits that have fueled homophobic rhetoric for decades。 Horowitz is better than this。 I'm not sure what he was thinking or how this got past editors。MINOR SPOILER-- the moment I noticed this trend in the book， I knew exactly who the killer was because it was obvious that Horowitz was going to use a GAY PAST element to motivate the killer。 Yes， someone's sexual past with men is the major twist of the book， though the character takes pains to make sure everyone knows he isn't gay despite his history。 I thought we were past the SURPRISE HE'S A GAY twist。 I don't get it。 I'm sure some people won't mind or even notice。 I don't believe I am particularly sensitive to being offended， but it was just so constantly misguided that I couldn't not post a review。 I haven't seen anyone mention this， so maybe it is just me， but if the things I listed sound like red flags for you， you might not enjoy the book。For anyone who loved the book， I'm glad you loved it。 I am not trying to ruin anyone's enjoyment， but I wish I had known this was in the book before I read it and would like to pass the information along。 。。。more

পরপর আরেকটা জমজমাট মিস্ট্রি থ্রিলার পড়লাম। গল্পে লেখক বেশ চালাকির সাথে ক্লু দিয়ে গেছেন， সচেতনভাবে পড়লে পাজল মিলিয়ে ফেলা যায় কিন্তু তারপরেও শেষে যে টুইস্ট এন্ড টার্ন ছিলো সেটা অসাধারণ। বেশ উপভোগ্য একটা গল্প। দুর্বলতা বলতে গেলে বলা যায় বইয়ের ঢাউস সাইজের কথা৷ অন্তত ১৫০ পেজ ঝেড়ে ফেললে একটা মেদহীন টানটান চমৎকার গল্প পেতাম। চিরকুট থেকে বাংলা অনুবাদ বের হয়েছে এটার， বইয়ের বাঁধাই， প্রচ্ছদ，অনুবাদ একদম টপ নচ। ধন্যবাদ জানাই তাদের।

Agatha Christie he is not， although he is trying hard to imitate her writing style。 This is the first book by him I have read。 There are times when you get bored with the seemingly endless descriptions of the locations。 But then there are other times when the plot develops some drive and picks up pace only to fizzle a little bit later on by too many detailed explanations and descriptions。 The twists are a few too many in my mind。 The reasoning is laid out in intricate detail and surely follows l Agatha Christie he is not， although he is trying hard to imitate her writing style。 This is the first book by him I have read。 There are times when you get bored with the seemingly endless descriptions of the locations。 But then there are other times when the plot develops some drive and picks up pace only to fizzle a little bit later on by too many detailed explanations and descriptions。 The twists are a few too many in my mind。 The reasoning is laid out in intricate detail and surely follows logic but again， there is too much logic at work for it to hold your attention for long。 There is virtually no action except for the attempt on Susan's life which really wasn't meant that way。 it was just to show some bravado on one of the protagonists part。 This explanation is so hare-brained that the ever-present logic seems to have gone missing。 The even more ridiculous part is indeed in that same scene when that piece of structure comes crashing down towards Susan and her boy-friend by some magic shows up out of nowhere and wrestles her aside out of harms way。 Some find the book within a book a good idea but what is written there over 40 % of the entire book is just a repetition of what Susan had found out before; altogether redundant as it does not offer up any satisfactory explanation per se。 That explanation comes at the end when Susan summarizes the plot and identifies the killer。 Horowitz uses the time-honored particularly English writing style by honing in on a number of possible suspects that all had a clear and convincing motive。 One by one is being eliminated by using mere deduction without any actual proof。 If the killer hadn't reacted the way he did by flying off the handle and trying to kill the one present policeman， he could have just sat in silence or sneered at all these deductions as I don't believe any of the so-called evidence， including Cecily's letter to the Romanian immigrant who used to be both sisters' lover at the same time， nor the pin that was used to prick the dog 8 years ago。 So， although it is written well and towards the end you really want to know who did it， in summary the plot is a wee bit to far-fetched。 The limit of believability is tagged on at the very end。 Aiden， the killer， finds the time to write a letter to his father-in-law minutes before he throws himself before a fast train。 It is more like a young-adult book if it were not for the content about rent boys and the occasional profanity。 。。。more

3。5 - Certainly twisty， but so many of the clues for the larger mystery felt overly highbrow and the rampant homophobia pissed me off。 I did， however， appreciate the critiques of the prison system and sentencing paradigms。 In many ways， I would have preferred to read just the Atticus Pünd plotline and forget about the present day。

Woweeee！ This had me on the edge of my seat。 Anthony Horowitz has a way of putting a book within a book。 You get a lot of bang for your buck by being treated to not 1 but 2 mysteries and whodunits。 This was wonderfully written。 It was entertaining。 I am a big fan of Magpie Murders and I think that Moonflower Murders was even better！ I am really hoping that there will be a third Susan Ryeland installment to this series。
